Exporting from Sibelius

Before exporting MIDI from Sibelius

Confirm that the correct articulations and dynamics are played within Sibelius using Sibelius Sounds. This will increase the probability of getting the best results in Artinfuser Studio.

Always choose MIDI File Type 1 when exporting from Sibelius.

Please see the recommendations below to achieve the best results from the automatic performance. The techniques in green will be automatically exported from Sibelius, the techniques in yellow may require additional work, and the techniques in red cannot be exported.

Technique Recommendation
Tempo Exported automatically.
Pizzicato Exported automatically.
Rhythmic feel Exported automatically (like 'swing' text).
Ornaments symbols Exported automatically.
Appoggiatura, acciaccatura Exported automatically.
Arpeggio symbol Exported automatically.
Mute text Exported automatically.
Trill symbol Exported automatically.
Tremolo with next note Exported automatically as a trill.
Dynamics Sibelius will export dynamics automatically. Dynamics below ppp and above fff will be exported as ppp and fff respectively.
Sforzando (sf) text Exported automatically by adding one dynamic level to the note (e.g. mf instead of mp).
Tenuto symbol Exported automatically by adding one dynamic level to the note (e.g. mf instead of mp).
Accent symbol Exported automatically adding two dynamic levels to the note (e.g. f instead of mp).
Drum set notation Exported automatically.
Non-legato Sibelius will export normal adjacent notes as touching, which will be converted to non-legato in Artinfuser Studio by default. There is an option to add legato transitions to all adjacent notes automatically even if there are no slurs present in the score.
Slurs Sibelius will export the slurs, which will be converted to legato in Artinfuser Studio by default. There is an option to add legato transitions automatically to all adjacent notes even if there are no slurs present in the score. Please note that in Sibelius the last slurred note is a little shorter than normal.
Pedal Exported automatially.
Tremolo Sibelius will export the tremolo as a set of short notes. Artinfuser Studio can usually detect the tremolo and convert it to realistic tremolo sounds if the selected instrument supports it.
Divisi Sibelius will not export the divisi text, but if all the voices of an instrument have the same rhythm, they will be played by separate instruments. In order to have multiple voices with different rhythms played back by the same non-polyphonic instrument (other than Piano, Organ, percussion etc.), it is required to manually divide them into separate staves before exporting them from Sibelius.
Crescendo / decrescendo Sibelius will export the dynamic assigned to the beginning of each note: one dynamic per note. Any additional dynamics assigned to the same note will not be exported, including crescendo and decrescendo inside note.
Harmonics Sibelius will export harmonics as normal notes at the sounding pitch.
Flutter tongue text Sibelius cannot export the flutter tongue (frullato) technique text. By adding a tremolo to a note it will be exported as flutter tongue.
Sul ponticello, Sul tasto, Dampened, Con sordino, Harp open harmonic Sibelius cannot export these technique texts with default settings. If this technique is needed, create a new staff, transfer the notes that require this technique and once imported to Artinfuser Studio the user will be able to select the correct instrument configuration. Do not forget to assign a dynamic to the transferred notes.
Staccato Sibelius cannot export technique texts such as "staccato", "marcato", and "spiccato". It is possible to use a staccato dot symbol over a note, but please confirm that the resulting note length is not too long (Sibelius decreases the note length 2 times for notes with a dot). Slower tempos may need the quarter notes to be replaced by eighth notes followed by eighth rests. If longer notes are required to be played as a staccato, increase the "Auto staccato" parameter in the instrument configuration.
Glissando Sibelius will export the glissando symbols automatically, but this is not yet implemented in Artinfuser Studio. At the moment there is no way to achieve the glissando sound.

Always choose default tick resolution of 960 when exporting from Sibelius.
